The Tradition Lives On

Tomato season is more than just a moment in time—it’s a celebration of family, heritage, and the simple joy of sharing a meal. For generations, kitchens have come alive with the rich aroma of simmering sauce, as recipes are lovingly passed down and stories are told around the table.

At Longo’s, we’re proud to be part of these traditions. As we celebrate 70 years of serving our communities, we remain committed to bringing you the freshest Roma tomato bushels, vibrant basil plants, and all the essentials you need to continue — or begin your own family ritual.

Whether it’s your first batch or your fiftieth, we’re here to help you preserve the flavours of summer and create lasting memories, one jar at a time.

Tomatoes and all the Extras

Passatta Made Easy

Hands chopping fresh tomatoes on cutting board, outdoor food prep with bowls of washed tomatoes, cooking ingredients close-up.

Prep The Tomatoes

Wash those juicy beauties, remove the stems, and chop them up.  No need to be perfect, just get them pot ready!

Tip: Set aside any bruised or overripe tomatoes to ensure the best flavour.

Simmer & Soften

Place the tomatoes in a large pot and simmer gently for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they’re soft and saucy. Your kitchen will smell amazing.

Pass The Passtta

Run the cooked tomatoes through a food mill to separate the skins and seeds.  What's left is silky smooth passatta gold.

For a finer texture, pass it through a second time.

Bottle The Love

Add a fresh basil leaf to each jar, then pour in your passata. Seal tightly and process in a water bath to lock in the taste of summer all year long. Properly sealed, your jars can be enjoyed for up to two years.
